There will be little time for Brian Grimshaw to sit back, rest, and contemplate this past weekend's victory over Aaron Bruce, as the Team Revolution fighter has agreed to step up and face the always tough Elmer Waterhen, at King of the Cage Canada's "Dog Eat Dawg" card this coming Friday in Calgary. Grimshaw cleared his way for a bout with Waterhen at the April 11th, Extreme Fighting Challenge 7 card in Vernon, BC, by submitting Bruce with a first round triangle-choke.
ÂÂ
"It was 56 seconds in," said Grimshaw (4-1), when asked to comment on his latest win. "I just believe in my jiu-jitsu. I roll everyday, that's pretty much my bread-and-butter right there. Maybe he didn't respect my ground; maybe I just caught him, I don't know. Maybe the next fight would be different. I thought I was going to win by decision."

In one of the more compelling bouts scheduled for King of the Cage Canada's upcoming May 8th, ‘Island Pride' event, the promotion's former light-heavyweight champion Nick Hinchliffe, will take on Antonio Rodrigo and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira's training partner, Thiago ‘Jambo' Goncalves. The tilt will not only present Nanaimo MMA fans another opportunity to watch one of that city's more accomplished fighters, it will give the hometown crowd a chance to watch Hinchliffe in what could be, one of the more challenging and important fights of his career.
ÂÂ
"Definitely, because with him he's known all over, so it would be big win for me," said Hinchliffe (10-4) when asked about the importance of his upcoming bout with Goncalves (11-2). "I'm not always about just oohing an awing people, I just want to go out there and fight. I like to fight. I take them one at a time. I want to fight credible and good opponents because I consider myself a pretty credible fighter for anybody. I want to fight the best."

King of the Cage Canada's upcoming "Island Pride" event will feature not only several, well established veterans, the 15 fight-plus card is also stacked with a long list of up-and-coming fighters from British Columbia. With a record of 6-2, the 23 year-old Shawn Albrecht certainly fits into the latter category, and on May 8th, the fighter will head to Nanaimo to take on that city's undefeated featherweight, Graham Spencer (3-0)
ÂÂ
"I've seen him fight once,' said Albrecht. "On a show in Vancouver; he was pretty good, I watched him fight, and I noticed he has lots of heart, good conditioning, he didn't give up. He just drove, drove, and drove. I thought he was losing most of the fight, but he didn't give up and ended up winning. I think I'm pretty prepared for someone like that. It doesn't look like he does too much stand-up. He looks more like a wrestler and grappler; I think he might prefer that area."

Nanaimo's own, Graham Spencer, will be on the hunt for his fourth professional win May 8th, when he takes on fellow prospect Shawn Albrecht in front of a hometown crowd at King of the Cage Canada's "Island Pride" event. Spencer (3-0) will head into the cage having gone undefeated thus far in his young MMA career, which includes a recent second round submission win over Patrick Bessara, at KOTC Canada's "Trooper" event in February. Despite the success Spencer has been having, since turning pro just over one year ago, the 25 year-old electrician continues to approach his fighting career one day at a time.
ÂÂ
"That would be nice, but I don't like to get too far ahead of myself," said Spencer, when asked about his aspirations regarding fighting and whether he hopes to make it a full time career. "In this sport you can get lose just like that. You can't really count on anything. I don't mind working. I'd like to keep fighting for a while and just keep testing myself. That's what I like about this fight because Shawn's a pretty good fighter. This will be a good test for me."

Recently King of the Cage Canada announced that Calgary fans will have yet another opportunity to watch two of the region's more entertaining and resilient welterweights, as Elmer Waterhen will face Tyler "TNT"Jackson, in the main event of the promotion's upcoming April 17th event. The "Dog Eat Dawg" card will be hosted by the city's Commonwealth Centre. Although Waterhen came up short in his recent main event bout with Canadian welterweight champ Gary Wright, at the promotion's February 27th, "Trooper" event, Calgary fans that were in attendance will likely not soon forget the Saskatchewan fighter's gritty performance.
ÂÂ
"I think I gave a good performance against Gary Wright," said Waterhen, who was finally stopped by the highly regarded Wright in the fifth and final round of their bout. "I think I just kind of ran short in the last round. I made the mistake of letting him have full mount. I had lost a point in the fourth round and so I knew I had to submit him or knock him out. There was no question. So I had to rush to beat him and then I made a mistake. But you know what? That guy never stops. I got to meet him outside of the cage and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met. That's a true champion."
