mahood_turbulenceBill “The Butcher” Mahood is quick to concede that the UFC veteran loves fighting, and when you continue to train with the highly regarded Revolution Fight Team, win the King of the Cage Canadian Light-Heavyweight Championship, and are on a three fighting winning streak, competing in MMA is likely that much better. At KOTC Canada’s April 24th, “Fearless” event in Penticton, B.C., Mahood enjoyed adding another win to his resume, as he tapped out Shannon Ritch in the first round with strikes.

“Honestly I just want to have fun,” Mahood told KOTC. “That’s why I do it; at my ripe old age of 43 I don’t do it for any other reason than to have fun. I’m not expecting to make a million bucks at fighting; I’m not expecting that out of the blue Dana White is going to come banging at my door again, I just do it because I love it, I’m an addict, as long as I can go out there and compete, keep training, I’m going to do it. It keeps me young.”

It's not every day that you hear about a fighter winning three titles in less than 24 hours, but on March 26th and 27th, not only did Clayton Sheen win King of the Cage's Canadian Flyweight Championship in Edmonton, in North Vancouver the very next day, the Prince George fighter won two more grappling titles at the Tiger Balm International. That's an impressive two days worth of work.

"I was pretty happy," said Sheen while recalling his championship, first round, submission victory over Mike Davis. "I felt a little scrambly in there but I was able to hang on and get to the back. I don't think it could have gotten that much better."

diamondback_poster_200Title bouts are often the defining points of any fighter's career; not only do they mark any incredible opportunity for further success and notoriety, but one must defeat another athlete, whose talent and drive has also earned them a title shot. On March 26th, at the Mirage Banquet in Edmonton, Mike Davis will find himself in this exact situation, when he takes on Clayton Sheen for King of the Cage Canada's Flyweight Championship.

"I was pretty happy," said the 23 year-old Davis, when asked for his reaction upon finding out he would fight for a championship belt. "I knew I had to fight Clay though, which is a really, really tough fight, so it was good but a little nerve wracking. You can't say no to something like that though."

These are interesting and monumental times in the young MMA career of Raphael Bergmann. In February the 38 year-old-fighter entrenched his presence in the national heavyweight rankings, when he defeated former champion Adriano Bernardo by Unanimous Decision, to lay claim to the King of the Cage Canadian title. Now, Bergmann will have an opportunity to showcase his skills for an international audience,  as recently KOTC confirmed that the 4-0 fighter will face Tyler East, May 14th, in New Mexico.

"I was excited to hear about competing against Tyler East," said Bergmann. "He is a world level King of the Cage contender and if there is anyone who will show me the holes in my game, on the fly, well that will be him. He will make me a better fighter, so it's a big win for me no matter what, and I expect to win."

Dan Severn: "This Old Dog Still has a lot of Bite" PDF  | Print |  E-mail

thunderstruck_ii_200Dan Severn will be the first to concede that the 110 fight plus veteran, UFC Hall of Famer and decorated wrestler's days as one of MMA's premier fighters are passing behind him, but that doesn't mean that "The Beast" isn't still more than capable of adding to his extensive win column. In fact, this was the message that Severn had for Canadian MMA fans just days before he will face heavyweight Buddie Dixon, at King of the Cage's "Thunderstruck II" event in Calgary on March 18th.

"I think this is probably a great opportunity for him," said Severn, when asked for his thoughts on the upcoming bout with Dixon. "He's a newer guy on the scene. That's probably the best way of looking at it for him. The reality is that I'm Dan Severn, I'm 51, okay? The reality is that I'm not the same war dog that I once was, but at the same token, you better watch out because I didn't rule the world at one point for no reason. So those that take me a little bit more lightly because of my age, well, they might be surprised; this old dog still has a lot of bite to his bark."
