Terry Trebilcock    John Cooper King of the Cage promoter, Ken Kupsch, is new to the fight scene. He is actually a professional shooter known as “Kanada Kidd†turned promoter. When asked about his MMA background, he replied “I have almost 30 years of "Gun Fu†After winning the US National Cowboy Action Shooting Championships in 2001, with over 700 competitors, he has reduced his shooting schedules. He is still the current Canadian Speed Shooting Champion as well as the Canadian Cowboy Action Shooting Champion. How did this evolve to becoming a King of the Cage promoter? Lets ask him.
My introductions to King of the Cage were made through their production company, “The Video Guys†who I had also worked with. KOTC was expanding rapidly and wanted a promoter in Canada. That’s where it all started. I was really looking for a new challenge. Some people can’t understand this but once your reach your goals, you have nowhere to go. The best you can do is what you’ve already done. King of the Cage had an opportunity that doesn’t come along every day. When the media found out I was bringing cage fighting to Edmonton, a few people came totally unglued! That made me more determined than ever. You see, about five years ago, I put a shooting range into West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in the world. The controversy was fuel for myself, my staff and the whole shooting community. Today we are one of the most prominent ranges in existence and I feel that if we can bring something like handguns to being a mainstream hobby for so many people, we should be able to assist those doing the same with mixed martial arts. King of the Cage has excellent opportunities for our athletes to showcase their talents on a world-wide platform. I’m very thankful and proud that I can be part of that.
