One of the intriguing match-ups that will take place at King of the Cage Canada’s upcoming May 28th “Combustion” event in Edmonton, Alberta, is a tilt between rising light-heavyweights Cody Krahn and Trent Thorne. Both men will head into the bout having won three straight and both men have just two losses to date. The fight could speak volumes about where exactly the victor sits in the 205lb. division, which is why according to Krahn it needs to happen, before either man starts calling out for a title shot.
“I went after the fight myself,” said Krahn (6-2) while discussing the background to the upcoming fight. “I had heard that Trent had called out Bill Mahood after beating Chad Olmstead. I knew that me and Trent were supposed to fight a while ago. So I figured this was my opportunity to tell him, you know if you’re going to be fighting Bill Mahood, you should be fighting someone like me first.”

Things were going rather well in the career of Garett Davis when he submitted Shannon “The Cannon” Ritch at King of the Cage Canada’s “Widowmaker” event in June, 2006. Not only did the win add another high profile victory to the resume of Davis, but it was the Vancouver fighter’s sixth straight at the time; more and more Canadian MMA observers were taking notice of his career. Unfortunately for Davis, the veteran fighter has gone 3-4 since, making his upcoming bout with Ritch that much more important.
“It’s kind of a scary bout for me,” said Davis recently, who will face Ritch for a second time at KOTC Canada’s May 28th “Combustion” event in Edmonton, Alberta. “As far as “The Cannon’s” concerned the guy has as much experience as anybody; even though he has a lot of losses he still has over 50 wins you know? He’s been in there with pretty much anybody and is capable of taking anybody out in the first round.”

Bill “The Butcher” Mahood is quick to concede that the UFC veteran loves fighting, and when you continue to train with the highly regarded Revolution Fight Team, win the King of the Cage Canadian Light-Heavyweight Championship, and are on a three fighting winning streak, competing in MMA is likely that much better. At KOTC Canada’s April 24th, “Fearless” event in Penticton, B.C., Mahood enjoyed adding another win to his resume, as he tapped out Shannon Ritch in the first round with strikes.
“Honestly I just want to have fun,” Mahood told KOTC. “That’s why I do it; at my ripe old age of 43 I don’t do it for any other reason than to have fun. I’m not expecting to make a million bucks at fighting; I’m not expecting that out of the blue Dana White is going to come banging at my door again, I just do it because I love it, I’m an addict, as long as I can go out there and compete, keep training, I’m going to do it. It keeps me young.”

It's not every day that you hear about a fighter winning three titles in less than 24 hours, but on March 26th and 27th, not only did Clayton Sheen win King of the Cage's Canadian Flyweight Championship in Edmonton, in North Vancouver the very next day, the Prince George fighter won two more grappling titles at the Tiger Balm International. That's an impressive two days worth of work.
"I was pretty happy," said Sheen while recalling his championship, first round, submission victory over Mike Davis. "I felt a little scrambly in there but I was able to hang on and get to the back. I don't think it could have gotten that much better."
