rorymac_smallEdmonton MMA fans will get an opportunity to watch one of the nation's top up-and-coming prospects on September 25th, when Rory MacDonald takes on the dangerous Nick Hinchliffe, at King of the Cage Canada's "Disturbed" card. As MacDonald continues to grow mentally and physically as a fighter, the 19 year-old has set his sights on competing at 170lbs. for the time being, after laying claim to the promotion's Canadian and World lightweight titles. The upcoming bout with Hinchliffe will mark MacDonald's second as a welterweight, as the Team Toshido fighter moved up a weight class earlier this year, and submitted Elmer Waterhen at KOTC Canada's "Island Pride" card in May.

"I'm definitely comfortable at this weight right now," said MacDonald, who has gone 8-0 since he began competing professionally as a 16 year-old. "I'm getting bigger and stronger but at this moment I'm not ready for 185. I've been out in Montreal and some of those guys think that eventually one day I might be a 185'er, just based off my body and how young I am. We'll see what the future holds, but for right now, 170 is my home for the coming years."

Hinchliffe Ready for Welterweight Tilt with MacDonald

nick_hinchliffeNick Hinchliffe continues to demonstrate that not only is the Nanaimo fighter willing to take on all comers, the former KOTC Light-Heavyweight champ can do so at 170lbs. After earning several victories over middleweights like Dan Chambers and Trevor Stewardson in the last 12 months, Hinchliffe will now test his abilities against the promotion's former lightweight champ, turned welterweight, Rory MacDonald. Hinchliffe, who KO'd Chambers just a couple of week ago on August 22nd, doesn't foresee the weight cut being an issue.

"As far as the weight cut goes I have always made weight and this fight will be no different," said Hinchliffe, who also defeated Calgary's Anderson Gancalves this past summer. "I'm coming off two big dominant wins, I feel like I did when I started fighting; a handful for anyone."

r_kynsh_kotc_face_offWhen Jason Towns and Ryan Knysh fight at King of the Cage Canada's upcoming "Disturbed" event, September 25th, in Edmonton, Alberta, the 35 year-old Towns will compete for the first time since August, 2002. Fighting at a UFCF show in Washington State, Towns submitted Chris Liles in the first round; at the time, the Edmonton newcomer likely didn't think his next fight wouldn't come until 7 years later.

"I've been missing it for a long time," said Towns, when asked about his upcoming comeback. "I have 3 children, so I had to make sure that I was meeting my obligations there. It's always been something that I really, really, missed. It's part of my life that just hasn't been there. Before I left Kelowna, I was training pretty heavily there for a number of months at Toshido with David Lea. When I moved to Edmonton I sought out a club right away to train and so I've been training at Legends. They're a great bunch of guys and a great group to be training with."

mahoodIt's been a lengthy and successful career for Bill "The Butcher" Mahood, and on July 18th, the 42 year-old-veteran will look to add another accomplishment to his resume, when he takes on Edmonton prospect Bill Mesi for King of the Cage Canada's light-heavyweight belt. For the Revolution fighter, whose near decade long MMA career has seen him compete abroad for Bodog Fight, inside the UFC Octagon, and at the Playboy Mansion with Strikeforce, getting a shot at the KOTC Canadian title is yet another welcome opportunity.

"I was very happy in being given the opportunity to fight for the KOTC belt again," said Mahood, who will fight Mesi at the promotion's "Captial Excalibur" card in Edmonton's Rexall Place. "The last time was versus Patrick Cote and I came up short."
