A quick examination of Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch's extensive record reveals that winning by submission is nothing new, and at King of the Cage Canada's "Nailbiter" event in Edmonton Friday night, the jiu-jitsu black belt added another tap-out victory to his 150 fight plus record. Taking on the always tough Elmer Waterhen, Ritch countered a hard kick from Waterhen early on, by taking the bout to the mat and ending it with a first round toe hold.

"He hit me with a pretty good kick so I decided to take him down," Ritch said. "I got him with the heel hook and then switched it to a toe-hold to get the tap."

"I thought it was a good fight," the 39 year-old-Pride-veteran added. "I tried standing up to put on a show for the fans, threw some wild kicks; thought it was pretty good. Leg locks are my go to. If I can't knock him out I'll go for a leg lock submission."

On January 22nd, Alberta MMA fans will once again have an opportunity to watch one of the sport's most experienced and well travelled fighters, as Shannon "The Cannon" Ritch will return to Edmonton, to take on the resilient welterweight Elmer Waterhen. The two veterans, who have entrenched reputations for being entertaining and aggressive fighters, will meet at KOTC Canada's "Nailbiter" event.

"From local guys that I've called that I know in Canada, they told me that Elmer is more like a 50 / 50 fighter," the 39 year-old Ritch told KOTC. "He comes out and fights hard. They told me that he's the type of guy that won't quit. They also said it depends on which Elmer shows up. Sometimes they say he's really good and other times he doesn't fair so well. So it all depends on which Elmer shows up."

After spending a good part of 2009 training for two title fights with Jason Volpe, Ryan Chiappe will finally head into 2010, as the King of the Cage Canadian Middleweight Champion. On Saturday night, at KOTC's "Catalyst" card in Vernon, BC, Chiappe laid claim to the promotion's 185lb. title by submitting Volpe in the first round with a rear-naked-choke. With the win, Chiappe brings to an end a near 6 month long chapter on a good note, after being disqualified for poking Volpe in the eye during their first tilt in July.

"It feels really good," said Chiappe, when asked to reflect on the win. "I trained very hard for this fight so it's nice to see some of the fruits of the labour. It feels good. I got the result that I desired. It's been since July that I've been preparing for this opponent so it's nice to get it finally over and done. I'm very happy for sure."
